Tom has had a long career in the marching arts and public school music education. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he received degrees in music education and wind conducting. His teachers included Walter Chesnut, Malcolm Rowell and George Parks.


His teaching career in drum corps started in 1972. He has been involved with Drum Corps International corps since 1977, when he started with Boston Crusaders.


In DCI he has taught many units, including Boston, North Star, 27th Lancers, Cadets, Glassmen and Colts. Is is currently on the teaching staff of the Colts.


He is a member of three teaching halls of fame: Boston Crusaders, Massachusetts Drum Corps and Maine Music Educators.


He was recently named national jazz educator of the year by the Jazz Education Network and Berklee College of Music.


He recently retired after teaching high school band for 31 years, 17 of which he spent at Cape Elizabeth, ME. High School.


He has adjudicated for MICCA, MBDA - Maine Band Directors Association, Maine Music Educators and Massachusetts Jazz Educators.
